Learning Objectives

  1. Gain an understanding of pathology reports and receptor status and review AJCC 8th edition staging updates and treatment options.
  2. Introduce and highlight the role of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in cancer therapy and recognize the risk and pharmacologic mechanism of drug-drug interactions between certain TKIs and widely prescribed co-medications.
  3. Identify at least 2 benefits of music in a health care setting and summarize the experience of music relaxation application.
  4. List the rationale for use of immune checkpoint inhibitors alone or in combination in oncology patients and understand best practices to recognize and manage adverse events that may occur with these agents.
  5. Understand application of and latest clinical trial data for CAR-T cell therapy in hematological malignancies and optimal management of patients receiving CAR-T therapy
  6. Define cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and identify tools to aid in its early recognition as well as treatments.
  7. Discuss at least 2 strategies for comfortably addressing sexual health and intimacy with oncology patients and identify at least 3 resources to use with oncology patients when discussing sexual health and intimacy.
  8. Recognize the process of grief and loss for professionals and how to identify and survive its cumulative effects; examine positive cultural and spiritual approaches to death in order to normalize it.
